The role of municipalities in Iceland has increased significantly in recent years. With this increased role comes greater demands, especially in relation to the regulatory framework that applies to them.

There are over 60 municipalities in Iceland, and the number of residents in individual municipalities ranges from around 100 to over 130,000.
Municipalities' tasks are diverse and range from school operations and planning to social services and infrastructure development. Legal services to municipalities therefore require broad expertise in different areas of law.
