History of LEX
LEX law offices, in its current form, boasts deep roots. In 1959, Supreme Court Attorney Sveinn Snorrason established a law practice, which eventually welcomed Supreme Court Attorneys Guðmundur Ingvi Sigurðsson, Jónas A. Aðalsteinsson, and Jóhannes L.L. Helgason as partners. This firm expanded and prospered, operating under the name LEX from 1987 onward. In 2000, LEX merged with the attorneys of KPMG, while continuing under the LEX name.
On January 1, 2005, LEX and Nestor—then led by Supreme Court Attorney and Associate Professor (later Supreme Court Judge) Karl Axelsson—joined forces. Building on this solid foundation, the merger created one of Iceland’s largest law firms, now employing about 40 attorneys. LEX is based in modern offices at Borgartún 26 in Reykjavík.
