Finnur Magnússon

Finnur is an attorney licensed to practice before the Supreme Court. He holds an LL.M. degree in international law from the University of Vienna from 2008, and he completed a dr. juris in international investment law from the same university in 2013.

Finnur has been one of the leading attorneys in Iceland in the field of International Economic Law and International Investment Law. His other areas of expertise are contract law, administrative law, contractor law, energy law, EU/EEA law, as well as litigation before the district courts, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, as well as the EFTA Court.

Finnur has for many years taught international trade law and international investment law, e.g. at the Faculty of Law at the University of Iceland and at Reykjavík University. In addition to teaching, Finnur has participated in international research projects for Oxford University Press, as well as being a Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge and K.U. Leuven.

Finnur is the Vice-Chairman of the Legal Aid Committee and the Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Nordic Arbitration Centre of the Iceland Chamber of Commerce. He has been a committee member for the Law Faculty of Reykjavík University in evaluating the progress of academics. He has been nominated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to sit on the list of arbitrators at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington.
